Sorry about the use of English, but my German is not so good when it
comes to talking about color management. The Blue Eye is more of a system
than just a colorimeter. It's specifically for certain LaCie monitors,
and includes a Sequel IV colorimeter + software.
The one nice thing it does is automatically precalibrate the monitor by
adjusting the RGB guns inside the monitor itself, before proceeding with
video card based calibration. Normally, adjusting the RGB guns is a
manual process that must be done by the user while using the monitor's
built-in menu system.
I haven't had a chance to use Blue Eye recently to see if it's doing a
better job than it used to, but considering how much LaCie charges for it
(last time I checked it was around $600), it's not a good deal. Color
Vision's Monitor Spyder (CRT or the CRT/LCD version) with PhotoCal will
do a better job, and so would Gretag Macbeth's Eye One Monitor - plus
those products can be used with any monitor.
