Thanks a lot for the response on my e-mail to both ECI_EN and ECI_German.
What I learned so far is that a fully automatic workflow is not possible in
the short run
in a digital workflow.
In our daily work there are some demands on picture quality not allowing to
be handled "automatically".
Highlight details: While you allow an image to have good highlight detail in
RGB due to a white point
around 240-245, "clipping" (< 5%) will lead to a flat result without detail
anymore.
Is clipping still necessary? Or is it a relict from bromide gravure (opal)
time?
Bright yellow color: As yellow according to ECI gravure is far too red,
bright yellow colors will turn into green
by adding cyan to the yellow during conversion to CMYK.
Scaling: By scaling down a digitally taken image in one step you will always
loose
definition (for instance wood structure).
In case of our blurry image I was following the discussion about RI
perceptual or relative.
By choosing "relative colorimetric" there is no blurriness in the channels
after conversion. Instead I have got an
extremely long and heavy K? Why?
Best regards
Michael
