Dear David,
thank you for your questions.
1) The work for new profiles is in progress. This job is done by ECI Web Offset Working
Group. The collecting of paper probes is going on. Don't know when these new profiles
will be available. A first profile could be SC-B paper (Fogra54). As long as new HSWO
profiles are not available, the existing profiles are valid.
2) The existing profiles are based on M0 CharData and require the known CMY+K 40% TVI
settings. There is no reason to change that as long as you use these profiles.
3) Use M1 (and the new CMYK 50% TVI settings) only with the new profiles. Go on using M0
and CMY+K 40% TVI settings with existing profiles.
4) Right, "low" and "faint" fluorescence cause only small differences
between M0 and M1 in such stocks. So there are no problems with quality if you use the
existing M0 based profiles. A "problem" could be the management of different TVI
settings if you are using new and existing profiles in your workflow simultaneously.
Kind regards

Betreff: [ECI-EN] Profiles and Characterisation data for PS2, 3 and 4
With the release of English Version MediaStandard Print 2016, there is an explanation we
can use existing Fogra45/PSO LWC Improved (ECI) and Fogra46/PSO LWC Standard (ECI) for the
new Printing Substrates 2, 3 & 4.
1) Is there a plan to update these with new characterisation data and profiles any time
soon?
The data sets and profiles for PS1 and 5 have been available for a while now, but many of
our existing heatset web customers are now waiting and urgently asking for the new data
sets and profiles.
2) If we use the existing Fogra45/PSO LWC Improved (ECI) and Fogra46/PSO LWC Standard
(ECI) for PS 2, 3 & 4, how should we set up the proofing systems? Should we use M1?
3) We will of course use M1 to measure and check production press sheet samples, right?
4) We do understand that PS 2, 3 & 4 will have, and usually has, minimal OBA’s. So are
you saying that there will be little difference with using M0 and M1on these stocks?
