Re: Monitor calibration and bias adjustment

Regarding the question of bias adjustment I would suggest you to try out the X-Rite Optix PRO monitor calibration and profiling solution. In the expert mode you can adjust the bias for the rgb-balance in the darkest shades. There is allso a possibility to tell the program how dark the measured patches will be. The default is a good compromise at 20% and the lower you go the more inconsistant the readings will be. We have been able to save many monitors (including Sonys) that had non-neutral blacks with this feature. The application makes excellent display profiles for both CRT and LCD and is quite straightforward to use. Monitor calibration

Monitor calibration is probably one of the easiest parts of color management, but for us Pre-press guys it is very important. We are using Gretag Profilemaker 4.1.5 to make the calibration and monitor profile of our Sony G500 and G520 CRT monitors, and it is working very well. But I have one question for all of you. Does any one know how to adjust the Bias in a controllable way? And does an adjustment of the bias has a great effect. I looked a lot to find an answer, but I never found a useful answer on this. So I left the Bias on default settings while calibrating. I think you better not touch, what you do not know. Jean-Marie Govaerts color management Catalpa

Printing Holland and Germany

1. What is the difference in printing between Germany and The Netherland (where I live)? 2. I'm enthousiastic about the provided profiles, but hesitate to use them because I'm not sure what differences there are. Are the measurements made throughout Europe? Or just in Germany? 3. What is the difference in profiles provided by Photoshop (eurostandard coated, uncoate and newsprint) and yours?

ISO profiles

It seems that I've misunderstood the way conversion is done.I allways thought that the darkest area in the RGB image was mapped to the highest CMYK value that was specified in the profile. ISO printing profiles

I know that one can make his/her own profiles and I have been following the discussions :0). I was not criticizing the ECI ISO profile, only trying to get some explanation on why 100% K was chosen instead of fx 95%.I have read some answers on my question but I still don't know why 100%K was chosen.
