Dear forum members.
I would like to know if many of you are using graybalance as quality control on press.
There has been som talk about this aproach to quality control lately and it is said to
give better results than measuring densities.
Therefor I'm curious to know how widespread the use of this method is and what people
think about it.
I would also like to know if those who use GB for QC, use it in conjunction with some
other methode, as for example density readings or if the feel GB is enough to keep presses
on the "right track".
Finally I would like to know if those who use GB are measuring or simply judging GB
"by the eye".
Hopefully some of you can take the time to answer this message,
Best regards.

I feel graybalance is not the sole approach to QC as some jobs will need to be printed out
of graybalance to achieve a match (for incorrectly scanned images).
Certainly graybalance is always a good starting point from eye to troubleshoot on making
ready, however a spectrophotmeter is far better to judge this. Off the subject slightly I
have just undertaken many tests on press to identify the perfect print contrast. This
entails printing CMYK tints at different tints and printing at varying densities say 1.0
to 1.8. (When measuring a cross between density and an 80 percent tint it gave me an
increasing value of print contrast) it told me at what density the best print contrast
would be achieved, in turn it told me the dot gain at these densities and in turn again
it gave the perfect graybalance. It also showed me I needed to make a small in rip
correction to adjust the dot gain to be inline with the ISO12647-2 standard.
