I have a question regarding colorsepertions for
uncoated paper.
If I get a specific profile from the paper company for every paper type and
do the conversion in Photoshop using that profiles is it , in your opinion,
any need to do any dotgain compensation when I send the images to plate (We
use DTP) or is the dot gain compensation "built into" the profile?
This is reasonably simple. As long as you know what densities, TVI (dot
gain) etc the uncoated profile requires, and you know what your presses TVI
is normally, when using these papers, then a simple adjustment curve, (if
the press does not match the profiles required TVI), on plate output can
insure the correct dot gain on press.
Often a test on press is needed, using a set of linear plates, with 2% to
100% patches in all colours, to measure the TVI.
