Dear Mr Engqvist,
there is no new standard introduced by us.
The situation is as follows:
Non-periodical screenings do produce higher tone value increase than
AM-Screenings.
That could be compensated by RIP-curves. Although we do not recommend
compensations
of 10% or more (because of former researches) this would be possible.
The ISO 12647-2 CIELAB values for the solids can be reached in both,
Am and NP screenings. But NP screenings do show different CIELAB-
values between 0% and solids
which cannot be corrected by Rip-curves.
Therefore NP is a different printing condition than AM.
That means that the separation for products printed with NP-screening
has to take that fact into account.
As we absolutely agree that standards have to be limited to few
changing parameters
we decided to choose a TVI-curve ( ISO F curve for CMY and K) that is
already standardized in the ISO 12647-2.
What does that mean in practice?
If you know that you will use NP screening:
Choose an ICC-profile based on the pertinent characterization data
for your RGB-CMYK transformation.
The ECI will publish such a profile.
If you do use NP screening but you do not have RGB or pertinent CMYK-
data:
By giving the industry standardized characterization data including
aim values for the press-calibration
you have the chance using standardized device-links.
We are sure to help the industry by establishing characterization-
data for NP screenings
and hope that the adoption of these will make life much easier in use
of NP-screening.
Kind regards
