Hi Roger,
The G7 process is an excellent method to manage web newsprint print. I think this would be
a great opportunity for the newprint industry to improve and control it's process with
greater predictability.
Newspaper print is not a lower grade of offset lithography! It has a precise range which
have not been effectively addressed by present methods.
Many ad campaigns originate in newspapers.
At the heart of the G7 process is the attempt at a shared visual appearence. This is the
purpose-that an image will look tlhe same regardless whether it is printed on a #1 sheet
at 200 line screen or newsprint at 100 line screen, within the limits of the stock and
solid ink values.
This process is successful due to the gray balance and tone shape approach to offset
lithography.
The G7 method on newsprint presses would offer the significant control neccessary to
manage print through a calibration method that addresses the limited range of web
offset.

Gerry

Subject: Re: [ECI-EN] ISOnewspaper26v4 profile and stochastic screening
Hi Gerry,
It seems the G7 process is not generating much enthousiam among newspapers
printers worldwide. The latest IFRA contest is still conducted on the base
of ISO-12647-3 conditions.
Thoughts?

The G7 process would an ideal way to to set up your
web presses with FM
screening. A profile can be created from an IT8 chart after printing within
the G7 process. This method is based on gray balance and tone shape. The color
of the newspaper stock is factored in by a formula applied to the tone curve.
The primaries and secondaries of solid ink would be standard newprint values.
The G7 method will be particularly helpful in managing the FM screening on
newsprint.
The entire method is explained in the "How to" document available has a free
download from
www.gracol.org. Please review the pdf document for all tools
needed to complete the process successfully.
