CM 2006 - Color Management Conference in Copenhagen, January 19-20, 2006
In January 2006 there is an excellent opportunity to meet some of the
top leading experts from Europe and the USA within digital photo, color
management and standardization of printing - at "CM 2006" they will
share their knowledge and take part in presentations, panel discussions

Hi Paul,
whenever I try the link that I sent with the announcement, it takes me
to the English version of the CM 2006 website. If you happen to get to
the Danish version, at least on the start page there is a UK flag in the
lower right that unsurprisingly takes you to the English version (and
there among other things also is a PDF in English with all the details).
The venue is the Radisson SAS Falconer Hotel in Copenhagen.

PDF is in Danish.

Also, at what level of expertise is this conference aimed. In referring to
hands-on monitor profiling and CS2 colour settings it gives the impression
it is aimed at beginners/intermediate users?

I read the program and I´m missing some important themes if the purpose is
"creation of a general consensus around color management and printing
standards"
For reaching this goal, we need to know the weak points of the ICC-specs
and how to deal with them.
In the field of RGB-workflows, this are especialy:

- Is it possible to make a proof from RGB-data ?
- If yes, how should it be done ?
- If not, what are the open points to solve ?
(I don´t now any serious colormanagement expert, who says proofing of
RGB-data is yet possible)
- Is it possible to build automated workflows, where RGB-data can be
converted automaticly to different output-conditions ?
- If yes, how should it be done ?
- If not, what are the open points to solve ?
(I don´t now any serious colormanagement expert, who says fully
automated conversion for all kind of RGB-data for all kind of
output-conditions is yet possible)
Open and not easy to solve points are espcialy:
- How to compare and judge gamutmapping strategies of different
profiling vendors ?
- how to deal with differnt gamutmapping strategies in open production
environments ?
In the field of CMYK workflows:

In my view the most important trend in colormanagement for the printing
industry in the next two years is the combination of:
- PDF/X-1a (or CMYKonly PDF/X-3)
- PDF colorservers (like e.g. CaslonFlow with Callas pdfColorconvert)
- Creation of tailormade devicelink profiles for CMYK2CMYK transformations.
If a colormanagement-conference wants to show the impact of
colormanagement for prepress and printing, PDF colorservers with
devicelink-profiles are a must !!!

what about PDF/X-3? Five Digitalproof-Forum events have proven that the
majority of proofing systems can do this.
