Hi Peter,
That's what we do ( generate our own profiles using FOGRA data)
What do you not like about the ECI-Profiles?
It's mostly the black generation , and the black width , with 100% max
k seeming a little too high . Also we have a problem with the
preferred rendering intent being perceptual. Although this is seen as
the 'traditional ' rendering intent for photographic images , we tend
to usea relative rendering for most of our photography ( colour
critical advertising work) . The ECI profiles display some anomalies ,
particularly in saturated blues when used with relative colorimetric
rendering.
It is always a "challange" to generate a profile that fits most needs.
Do you think the ECI should generate an expert package that has more
profiles with different Black generations, ....?
Great idea (And maybe with a little less exaggerated Chroma for a
better relative rendering ?) I feel that this would be particularly
useful to some of the present initiatives in the UK.

Bob Marchant.

We are also encouraging users to subscribe to a standard, although there is
a severe lack of
knowledge out there in the real world with regard to colour standards in the
UK.
We battle educating GMG users who wish to use a "propritory standard for
Inkjet proofing" in the UK, and
im sure you know what these are. Me being politically correct!
Nice to see some activity on the English ECI list....

Hi Paul.
It's a miracle that some photographers are supplying to ISO spec ( BTW, to
ISO spec , but not necessarily using the ECI profiles . We have an issue
regarding the rendering intents and black generation with some of the
existing profiles). As to the printers understanding ......there are
miracles and 'miracles'.
Seriously though,as with all parts of this industry it is a mixed bag..
We have the privilege to work with some sophisticated clients who
understand the correct protocol, and the pain of working with some who
supply us with such specs as 'ordinary CMYK' or ,the best yet, '300dpi
CMYK'.
I believe that you support the concept of standardised printing
conditions. Is it likely that this will be jumped at by UK printers
because they see inherent benefits, or only come about because of client
pressure ?

Bob Marchant.
