Same substrate / actual substrate proofing is the preferred approach.
The rendering intent for the RGB / Lab to KCMY print space transform
should be set to Relative Colorimetric with Black Point Compensation or
Perceptual, and the rendering intent for the
KCMY print space to the KCMY proof space should be set to Absolute
Colorimetric.
The reason Absolute Colorimetric should be used is that this is the
specified intent for Lab to Lab comparison. As the same substrate /
actual substrate approach is used, any dot for media white simulation
which may conceivably be caused by roundoff will be below the first
printing point of the proofing process.
One may as well use Relative Colorimetric for the KCMY print space to
KCMY proof space transform when a same substrate / actual substrate
approach is applied. However, this is not recommended.
