Deleting and convering is the same as assigning (what shoud an
unassigned be presumed to be). Where you change colour mode (eg to
RGB or Lab) the unassigned is assumed to be working CMYK. Assigning
profiles does not touch the values or the ink coverage. To reseperate
for control of ink coverage you must convert from CMYK to LAB (or
RGB) and back to CMYK.
A simple thing as adding an adjustment layer and curves shows that
you can easliy exceed the TOC of both the asigned profile and the
working space.
I have, and I hope others will to add to the bugg report/wish list of
photoshop that the ink limit of the working space should be honoured
in photoshop. Among all the filters that exist there is not a GCR/
inklimiting adjustment layer/smartfilter, which would be the smart
way to go. It is up to us to show Adobe the importance of this. If
there was such a filter then it would give a clear signal to
customers that ink limit/ink coverage is an issue.
