Hi Stefan,
I received you name from Craig Revie of the ICC. My name is Leon
Brown and I work (together with Lars Borg) at Adobe Systems. I am
trying to gather relevant recent information on color management and
its acceptance. Questions I am trying to put data to include:
* How well have ICC color solutions been accepted?
* How well has Adobe's color solution specifically been accepted?
In general, I am looking for hard data to talk to the return on
investment users are finding by conforming to a managed color
workflow, adoption trends (today vs. for example 2 years ago, vs. 5
years ago).
If you have any information, know of any relevant studies, or have
personal experience you can share with me I would appreciate it. I
am working on some internal presentations and would like to validate
my feeling that the industry is moving towards adopting standards
with better data.

— Please return to the use of CieLab.
— Ship a colormanagement manual with the software. Many operators are
normal people, not working in the graphic industry. Most people haven't
got a clue what colormanagement is about.

Dear Stefan,
Just a few comments from a printers and prepress service perspective.
We are using ICC workflows for:
- RGB to CMYK colour conversions
- Profiling of our production presses, proofing systems and colour displays
- Contract proofing, using proofer and press profiles to match te color on press.
We are using mainly Adobe and Gretag Macbeth software for these workflows.
Adobe Photoshop is being used for approx. 80% of our colour conversions from RGB to CMYK.
Gretag Macbeth software for for Profiling, Profile editing and batch conversions.
For colour conversions I expect a shift in the worflow for the coming years:
- RGB files from digital camera's and scanners will be maintained "as is" as
long as possible in the workflow
- Colormanagement will be done closer to the output.
(e.g. PDF X-3 colourmanagement in the CTP RIP).
Solid colourmamagement solutions from input to output will remain to be important in our
industry.
It is essential that all applications in the workflow are using compatible colour
management implementations,
In the present Adobe suite of software (from creation up to print-ready PDF this ihas not
yet been completely accomplished).
