I see some movements in the market place which support Olaf Druemmer's vision:
Recently our largest customer, a publishing company has decided:
- to switch from a CMYK workflow to an RGB workflow
- to start building an output independent image library of digital photographs and scans
in RGB, TIFF LZW with included ICC source profile
- to switch from Quark XPress to InDesign for several reasons one of them being the more
advanced colormanagement capabilities of InDesign
Of course extra training is needed at the creative side but more and more I see that for
instance photographers are attending workshops and courses to learn the ins and outs of
ICC based colour management.
That is a good sign.
On the other hand I sometimes see quite a lack of knowledge at the printers side where
people like to stick to CMYK workflows just because they do not know how to use the new
workflows and tools or they just do not have the required up-to-date tools.
Some work to do on that side of the chain!
