Regarding the question of bias adjustment I would suggest you to try
out the X-Rite Optix PRO monitor calibration and profiling solution.
In the expert mode you can adjust the bias for the rgb-balance in the
darkest shades. There is allso a possibility to tell the program how
dark the measured patches will be. The default is a good compromise
at 20% and the lower you go the more inconsistant the readings will
be.
We have been able to save many monitors (including Sonys) that had
non-neutral blacks with this feature. The application makes excellent
display profiles for both CRT and LCD and is quite straightforward to
use.

Monitor calibration is probably one of the easiest parts of color
management, but for us Pre-press guys it is very important.
We are using Gretag Profilemaker 4.1.5 to make the calibration and
monitor profile of our Sony G500 and G520 CRT monitors, and it is
working very well. But I have one question for all of you. Does any one
know how to adjust the Bias in a controllable way? And does an
adjustment of the bias has a great effect. I looked a lot to find an
answer, but I never found a useful answer on this. So I left the Bias on
default settings while calibrating. I think you better not touch, what
you do not know.
