Hello,
in my opinion the conditions for data exchange between pre-press and
press houses have to be clearly defined for working with device
independent colour. I think that at the moment there is a lack of
transparency, which working steps are necessary in processing device
independent colour.
I agree with the posting of Karl Koch. The "basic knowledge of color
management, color models and the concept of a working space" has to be
learned by all people working at the production chain. To my mind
colour management has to be seen more as a sub process of a production
process. The understanding of the complete production process would
help to set up the necessary standards for working with independent
colour. Standardisation campaigns of national and international
federations like FOGRA, ECI, and others will help to publish new
techniques.
If the work at the educational standard of people at the production
chain will be continued, I think in future, anybody would be scared by
working with device independent colour. Hopefully, there are enough
people to carry out this fastidious task.
The PDF/X-3 standard has so much publicity at the moment, but many
media agencies and press houses still want to receive open data instead
of PDF-Files. Perhaps we should be able to have a little more patience.
Best Regards,
Karsten Ackmann
