Bye the bye, just as ICC color management essentially cannot address
the problems on the production side of things, it also cannot in and of
itself address the problems on the creative side of things.
There is always the same fly in the ointment. The idea of a three
channel workflow with tagging of the source profile is a weakness
compared to an L*a*b* workflow with an LCh interface.
First, there was the DIN D65 / ANSI D50 issue. Then there was the 8 bit
/ 16 bit issue. But from a workflow point of view the fact that,
(1) RGB working spaces can be renamed by the user
(2) RGB working spaces can be omitted in the file
(3) RGB working spaces are an ever changing battleground for the ideal
archival space
still indicates that the original decision to base desktop workflows on
monitor profiles and synthetic monitor profiles was not good thinking
IMHO.
Thanks,
