The "basic knowledge of color management,
color models and the
concept of a working space" has to be learned by all people working
at the production chain.
Right. But at the moment, statements like this can easily be misused
by some people who want to AVOID learning colormanagement and its
principles - too difficult, time-consuming, why not leaving everything
like it is and so on.
I think we need a clear vision. We need to point out the advantages
that agencies, photographers, prepress companys, printers and
consumer/clients can profit from, and this means colormanagement in
general.
There are always people, who have problems by learning and practising
now methods or techniques. If I want to convince them to ignore their
doubts, it is necessary to give them comprehensive Information about
the advantages, but also about the requirements.
The major point is, how this information is given to the target group.
If federations or experts are publishing manuals, which nearly
everybody could understand, in my opinion many people will try working
in device independent colour. To my mind, nobody will be encouraged to
use colour management by reading the e. g. the ICC-Specs. I think, we
need manuals and material for exercises, which are easily to
understand. This will help. According to my experiences most people
want to understand and use colour management. So why shall I conceal
the requirements for working with device independent colour or colour
management in general?
