OK I asked an Adobe engineer about it and he says different CMM's do
different things apparently. And in the case of ACE it does move all
data through all intermediate steps in floating point. So actually
the image data itself may go through XYZ and/or LAB in this case.
Some stages can be optimized away.
Still, it is an unproven assertion that the TRC of the PCS is somehow
important given conversions occur in floating point.
