Under the existing circumstances it
seems to be more safe and easier to work with device dependent data.
¡BINGO!
Hi everybody,
I've been reading this interesting conversation from the beginning, and it really scares me as a printer to imagine that this is our future.
Because, "it is all about money in the world of honey" and our job is it to match the customer proof as close as possible, full stop.
Everything that might lead to a deviation between the customers idea of his product and our way how it comes out of our presses is automatically a big subject for discussion!
"And we are on the shorter end of the string"
I am sure you know that, this can lead directly to economical effects and consequences on the printers side.
Please keep in mind that e.g. a 2 to 3% price reduction over the job value is always a bigger amount for the printer than for the repro house.
So if it works, don't mess with it!! That is at least for now our strategy with this color independent work flows.
And the way this conversation goes confirms me, that we are still very far away from a stable running process.
Thanks for your attention
Robert Bierfreund
Darrian,
As I see it the scanner operator always has some work to do with the
image, but only in RGB. If he can tweak the scan into matching the
original better than an input ICC, or according to it's limitations then
is work is blessed. After the scan has been made profile to profile
conversions is the best way to get consistent results in the print
phase.

Hello,
Would you mind explaining a bit more? When you mention profile to
profile, do you mean RGB or does that also include scanner RGB profile
to CMYK print profile? Also, when scanning using profile conversions,
do you mean that the operator not allowed to "fiddle around". My
experience has been that the best combination is scanning software that
is ICC compatible (like Linocolor) which increases quality and
efficiency as you mention, but at the same time allows the scanner
operator to make to necessary corrections and adjustments during
scanning, whether in RGB, CMYK or L*a*b*. Thanks.
Regards.

Hi everybody,
as mentioned a few weeks ago we needed to do something about the non-
German speaking folks in Europe and elsewhere.
So I just enabled a new mailing list
[ECI-EN]
that hopefully will be as vivid as the [ECI] mailing list but in English
language.
Currently all those subscribed to [ECI-members] are also subscribed to
[ECI-EN] to make sure enough experts committed to the color management
cause are around.
In order send a message to the mailing list either reply to this mail (do
not forget to update the subject line!) or simply send an email to
eci-en(a)lists.transmedia.de
Just in case you didn't know - please never send HTML formatted email.
Plain text is the only viable option for mailing lists, as otherwise
among other things digests will be a pain in the neck.
If you feel you do not want to be subscribed to this mailing list anymore
(now or in the future) you can either unsubscribe yourself at the very
bottom of the page ("To change your subscription... <Edit Options> button")
http://lists.transmedia.de/mailman/listinfo/eci-en
or ask me (via admin(a)eci.org) to unsubscribe you.
Best regards,
Olaf Druemmer

Dear Olaf,
Concerning: ECI NEWSGROUP IN ENGLISH
It is good to see that you have followed our request to start an ECI newsgroup in English language.
Thank You!
As the first letter in ECI stands for "European " it is indeed a real necessity that graphic arts colleagues from non-German speaking countries are involved in the standardization activities of the "European Color Initiative" as well.
I really hope that the discussions in this newsgroup will be as lively as in the German ECI newsgroup!
So, to all my colleagues dealing with ICC color isues:
Make sure to register for this newsgroup if you are interested in ECI activities and ICC based colour management issues, problems and solutions!
See instructions below (from Olaf Druemmer) how to subscribe.
Best regards
Jo Brunenberg

Subject: [Eci] NEWS: ECI mailing lust now also in English as [ECI-EN]
Dear ECI subscriber,
I have just set up a new *English language* mailing list
[ECI-EN]
that is open to everybody wishing to discuss ECI activities, ICC based
color management matters and related issues in English. Hopefully it will
be as vivid as its highly successful German language sibling, the [ECI]
mailing list (as of today: 639 members).
Currently all members of the ECI are also subscribed to the new mailing
list, so you can rest assured that quite a few experts are around from
day one who will be happy to share their experience and opinions.
In order to subscribe to the new [ECI-EN] mailing list, please go to
http://lists.transmedia.de/mailman/listinfo/eci-en
This is also the page from where you can unsubscribe again or access your
subscription configuration, e.g. for avoiding 'out of office' nuisances
(look for the bottom most button <Edit Options> on this page).
In order send a message to the mailing list (only possible if you have
subscribed already!) either reply to this mail (do not forget to update
the subject line!) or simply send an email to
eci-en(a)lists.transmedia.de
Just in case you didn't know - please never send HTML formatted email.
