Under the existing circumstances it
seems to be more safe and easier to work with device dependent data.
¡BINGO!
Hi everybody,
I've been reading this interesting conversation from the beginning, and it really scares me as a printer to imagine that this is our future.
Because, "it is all about money in the world of honey" and our job is it to match the customer proof as close as possible, full stop.
Everything that might lead to a deviation between the customers idea of his product and our way how it comes out of our presses is automatically a big subject for discussion!
"And we are on the shorter end of the string"
I am sure you know that, this can lead directly to economical effects and consequences on the printers side.
Please keep in mind that e.g. a 2 to 3% price reduction over the job value is always a bigger amount for the printer than for the repro house.
So if it works, don't mess with it!! That is at least for now our strategy with this color independent work flows.
And the way this conversation goes confirms me, that we are still very far away from a stable running process.
Thanks for your attention

Darrian,
As I see it the scanner operator always has some work to do with the
image, but only in RGB. If he can tweak the scan into matching the
original better than an input ICC, or according to it's limitations then
is work is blessed. After the scan has been made profile to profile
conversions is the best way to get consistent results in the print
phase.

Hello,
Would you mind explaining a bit more? When you mention profile to
profile, do you mean RGB or does that also include scanner RGB profile
to CMYK print profile? Also, when scanning using profile conversions,
do you mean that the operator not allowed to "fiddle around". My
experience has been that the best combination is scanning software that
is ICC compatible (like Linocolor) which increases quality and
efficiency as you mention, but at the same time allows the scanner
operator to make to necessary corrections and adjustments during
scanning, whether in RGB, CMYK or L*a*b*. Thanks.
Regards.
