HI Joey,
The company that doing the certification will be Ugra. Some
information from the www.ugra.ch.
?
?Certification according to ISO 12647
Ugra certifies printing and prepress companies according to ISO
12647. Hereby different standards apply. In Germany these standards
are summarized under the term ?Process Standard Offset? (PSO). In
Switzerland this term is not established yet. The procedure and the
requirements of the Ugra certification were established in the expert
working group ?swiss4color?.
The Ugra certification is accomplished in a one-day audit. The
company, which is to be certified must show in the following
functions, that it complies with the ISO standards, that the devices
are calibrated, the standard operation procedures (SOP) are available
and followed and the aim values are reached within the given tolerances:
? Data entry
? Data creation
? Monitor / Soft proofing
? Proofing
? Plate making
? Print
? Standard illumination
The main issues of the audit are the following:
The audit of the data entry is accomplished in three interviews with
a sales representative, an order manager and a prepress operator.
Every employee in the company has to know, which data can be
processed in which way, what are the controls and what is to do if
error occur.
At the data creation step, know-how in color management, layout
production and PDF creation (ISO 15630) have to be shown. This part
of the audit is done with a test job.
At least one monitor in the company has to be set up according to the
guidelines (ISO 12646) and calibrated correctly.
At proofing the ?Visual Print Reference? is outputted. From the 8
pages the Media Wedges will be measured. The resulting values must
lie within the required tolerances (ISO 12647-7).
Since there are no standards for the printing plate making, the audit
checks if it is correctly documented and organized in the context of
a quality management system (ISO 9000).
The print must fulfill the requirements of the ISO 12647-2.
Furthermore it is verified whether these values are achievable in the
daily practice without problems.
The standard illumination must fulfill the ISO 3664.
Besides these main points many further things are judged. Companies
interested in the certification, may ask Ugra for a detailed
description of the demanded values and the further evaluations.
Since many points outside of standards are judged, for which no
strict aim values are available, a system of evaluation was
developed. If all requirements in a category are fulfilled, a rating
of 100 points is given. To achieve the certification, the audit must
result in a rating of over 80 points. With a rating between 60 and 80
points, single functions must be re-audited. With a rating below 60
points the complete certification process must be repeated.
If the company fulfills the requirements it receives the certificate
and is listed on the Ugra Website as a certified company. The
certificate is valid for two years.
As Ugra itself has an accreditation according to ISO 17025, Ugra is
about to obtain the same accreditation for its certification
according to ISO 12647 activities.

I'm a little confused about the use of the new profiles "ISO coated v2
(ECI)" and "ISO coated v2 300% (ECI)".
ECI states on there website:
"For two standard offset printing conditions new profiles are available.
ECI, bvdm and FOGRA jointly recommend the use of "ISO Coated v2 (ECI)"
and "ISO Coated v2 300% (ECI)". The latter is a version with lower
maximum ink coverage (300%) suitable for e.g. heat set web offset."
As I interpret your text, the profile "ISO Coated v2 (ECI)" is for
Sheet-fed offset and the profile "ISO Coated v2 300% (ECI)" is suitable
for heat-set web offset.
Now. on Ugra's website I have found this text:
"The new profile ISOcoated_V2_300.icc is used for the separation of
data. If there should occur problems with insufficient blacks, the
profile ISOcoated_V2.icc with a total area coverage of 330% should be
used. swiss4color recommends however, to use the profile with the total
area coverage of 300%.".
Should I use "ISO Coated v2 (ECI)" for Sheet-fed offset and "ISO Coated
v2 300% (ECI)" for heat-set web offset? Or is it like Ugra wrote on
there website, always "ISO Coated v2 300% (ECI)" for Sheet-fed offset,
and only if I should experience problems with insufficient black, then
to use the profile "ISOcoated V2 (ECI)".
Yours sincerely
