Greg, I just converted the Altona Test Suite v2 Technical Page 2 into PDF 1.6 using Acrobat Pro and it looks the same as the original when viewing in Acrobat — showing some errors mostly in patch Z and more subtle in patch X. So it would appear that the
problem is with the Esko software. Is that software rasterizing the file and then wrapping that into an image in PDF? If so and if it is using Adobe PDF Print Engine (APPE), then it will usually show more problems in patches G and X in addition to Z. This
is because the default mode for APPE does not honor transparency blending color spaces and instead forces them to be the output profile which in this case is the Output Intent of "ISO Coated v2 300% (ECI)". One can set APPE to honor the transparency blending
color spaces (though Esko may not expose that option), but then it fails in worse ways with the DeviceCMYK blending color spaces in the file. EFI worked around these and other issues to be able to perfectly output this Altona file for the Fiery FS 100 Pro
and to fully support RGB transparency blending color spaces that are found in more artwork that is generated in Illustrator in RGB and that uses transparency. This is why we were the only RIP vendor in the world to get a Perfect 100% score with VIGC, but
unfortunately certifications were stopped after we received ours. Richard
We are in the process of testing different versions of pdfs for proofing. With our current workflow we are creating pdf1.6 using Esko software. I took the Altona 2.0 PDF/x4 and exported it using Esko software to a 1.6 version and now the pdf has a lot
of transparency issues. Is this expected behavior with going from pdf/x4 to pdf1.6? Unfortunately Esko doesn't give you the option to create pdf/x4. Can Altona Test Suite be used for pdf1.6 or is it strictly for pdf/4x? From what I have read it sounds
like it but want to verify if anyone else has experienced this challenge.
