Hi Olaf, hi all
Thx for starting in the bcm-WG with your great thoughts about the
"reality" and your thoughts about working Colormanagement and its
future.
One pice I want to through into your thoughts - some new composings
(specially out of indesing) are consiting of a combination of images
and vector data, or images with different color spaces. Just think of
partial darkening of grayscale images in InDesign.
When colormanaging a page, some (intelligent software) has to also
consider surrounding elements and the conjunction of of those.
All this does not make it easier, but these are one of our todays
"point of failure", where color conversion mechanism fail and still
humans are needed to screen such color converted pages.
regards,
Peter

Dear members of the bcm mailing list,
yesterday I have given a presentation at a workshop at BAM in Berlin
that
discussed some issues with regard to use of ICC color management in the
real world of the graphic arts industry. Please consider it as a
starting
point to get the discussion going about issues with and limitations of
current implementations and uses of ICC based color management.
In the coming weeks I will try to develop my thoughts further and will
put togeteher a paper that explains my view more explicitly than is
possible with a couple of slides. Nevertheless the attached slides
hopefully will trigger some discussion.
Regards,
Olaf
